A couple of weeks I got a call from GOYA, a local group that produces musicals and plays in Ottawa. They were recruiting men for their latest production ‘War Brides’ and their director Gord Caruth had seen me perform in the Joseph musical and I guess I must have impressed him enough to warrant a cold call.
Now that I’ve got the bug, I was thrilled to be asked to join the cast. But there’s one problem. The show runs Oct. 20-24 with rehearsals beginning in mid-August. nd our due date for the little bundle of joy is Sept. 19. Smack dab in the middle of the rehearsal schedule. I went to the first reading and came away really impressed with the script, the music, and the cast. It would be something quite nice to be a part of.
And it’s something that I would like to be a part of.
But not at the expense of missing out on that first month with the munchkin.
While I could always hope that Aline has an easy birth, no baby blues and that our little girl is a good sleeper and non-cryer – that probably is leaving a little too much to chance. Aline and I discussed it and a lot of our friends with kids weighed in with their thoughts too.
End result: I’ll pass on this opportunity and do another musical with GOYA later. Family’s gonna come first.
