1812 at the Fort

Every year the Kingston Symphony presents an outdoor program at Fort Henry culminating in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with cannons fired by the Fort Henry Guard and a fireworks finale.

Last year when we tried to come see it, it was rained out. This year we had better luck. The symphony played a varied program including the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme song, the William Tell Overture, some musical selections from Wicked, a featured bluegrass band called the Abrams brothers and of course the 1812 Overture. Well worth the price of admission and as the cannons were going off and the fireworks exploded above us, I turned to Aline and said with glee – “This is awesome. I feel like a little kid! Explosions! Neato!”

Prior to the concert, we checked out an old stone house for sale north of Brockville, had supper at the Pilot House and then after the show, spent the night at the Blue Heron Inn in Prescott. Beautiful B&B and great talkative hosts who spent some time with us in the morning showing off their home.
