I have a class assignment to come up with some musical audition songs to learn and I’ve been looking for something more contemporary to learn.
There’s an awful lot of good material out there that I’ve never heard of.I came across this one called Run Away With Me from the musical The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown written by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk.
The show is set at dawn on the day that Samantha Brown is supposed to leave for college, she is sitting in her car but can’t turn the keys. She is filled with doubts and the show is told through a series of flashbacks from her senior year as Sam comes to terms with her parents expectations, her first love and a lost friendship.
This love song is sung by Sam’s boyfriend Adam as he tries to get her to run away with him.
It’s been twenty years since I graduated from Carleton University and in that time the football team went from bad to worse to extinction until resurrecting last year.
This year they won the annual Ottawa vs Carleton Panda Game on a 55-yard hail mary pass with five seconds left in the game for the first time in twenty years.
Everyone knows Sleeping Beauty has to be woken with a kiss, except Prince Charming. Every time the fairies watching over her try to tell him, he interrupts with his ideas of how to wake her. Eventually he gets the message, and his reaction is priceless: ?One hundred years of morning breath Wow! That could be the kiss of death!?
My take: This prince is a little slow when it comes to smooching. Fast forward 15 years. That’s not such a bad thing.
