Evil Dead: The Musical

I was never into horror films in my youth so I missed out on seeing the Evil Dead films which apparently were a beloved cult franchise in the 80s. Directed by Sam Raimi and starring icon Bruce Campbell, these movies used comedy, gore, slapstick, blood, one-liners and creative camera techniques to revolutionize the horror genre.

Here we are decades later, and the silliness has been brought to the stage at the Diesel Playhouse in downtown Toronto.

Thankfully we were wise enough to sit above the splatter zone – where patrons were given raincoats to protect them from the spraying blood in Act II – and got to enjoy the demons, the lead with the chainsaw arm, singing moose, and especially the part-time demon who had to find the spotlight for his song from third-row seats.
