First tooth PDF Print E-mail

Hazel went to the dentist for the first earlier this week and was told she had two loose teeth. She’s been wriggling one of the bottom ones at the front regularly since then at by lunchtime Sunday – you could see it was ready to come out as it hurt her to bite down on some corn.

So with a little gentle nudging she let me pull it out.

Quick and painless. She had been a sourpuss all morning but her mood picked up considerably with the excitement of a potential visit from the tooth fairy who she knows through the Pinkalicious series of books.

Following a family dinner Friday night which turned into a Pinkalicious gift giving extravanza, we had an outdoor picnic party for Hazel on her actual birthday with some of her friends from the neighbourhood.

Aline had baked a beautiful cake which met Hazel’s three requirements: a unicorn, a rainbow and pink.

The weather had forecasted rain but it held off and was nice outside where the kids played chase, find the marshmallows  with a blindfold and spoon, and dragged each other around in a wagon in in the backyard. Andrew and Geoff made mistake of helping. The rest of the parents chatted in the front until the party ended around 2:30.

Good times. Hazel was pretty well-behaved and with a little gentle reminder thanked her friends for the gifts.

Discussion between Aline and Hazel en route to the bus stop for Hazel's second day at school:

Hazel: Do I have school tomorrow?

Aline: No. Tomorrow is Saturday so it's the weekend. But you'll go back to school on Monday and keep going through the winter and spring.

Hazel: I have school in winter?

Aline: Yes.

Hazel: Will I have school in the summer?

Aline: Yes.

Hazel: Will I have school in AUGUST?

Poor kid. She had no idea what she was getting into . . .

Hazel had her first day of school today. No tears or drama as she got on the bus says Aline but she was gone in a flash as the school bus was late and the driver in a rush to make up time. Sam wanted to go too but Aline had to squash his hopes with a 'Wait till your five' response.

It's a hot muggy Saturday afternoon and I feel like exploring so the family is off biking to check out where the railway path turned bike trail leads to off Anderson road. Two kilometers in we discover it stops at a dead end probably somewhere short of Hwy 417. With Hazel practically falling asleep on the third wheel we take the safer route back and stop at A&J for a water break before Aline directs us to a fantastic public water spout park. Kids spend a good half hour running through the jets and cooling off. Total distance round trip was 21 km and it took us 1:08:50.

Sam: One.

Me: Two.

Got a call from HMV sweepstakes this afternoon regarding the $100 gift certificate for HMV that Aline won from Swiss Chalet earlier this summer. Had to answer the following skill testing question with no calculator:

120 / 10 * 3 - 15 + 25 = ???

Thankfully my math skills were up to snuff and my answer of 46 was correct!
