ImageA birthday is always a good reason to visit a restaurant.

But note to self - never let my good friend RL organize a birthday dinner celebration again - especially if he's planning on visiting the casino earlier in the day.

Rick's birthday was a disaster. The plan had been to meet at Mamma Grazzi's for 7PM but when Aline and I showed up 10 minutes early - no reservations had been placed and that was probably due to the fact no reservations were allowed - and there was a lineup of at least 6 people in front of us. No one showed up by 7:15 so we went for a walk ourselves and tried again later. This time Eric & Jen were there but still no birthday boy.

Had veal with brandy. Nice sauce. Excellent roasted potatoes and vegetable side.

It's easy to miss Il Piccolino on Preston Street if you're not paying attention and that would be a shame.

A pleasant cheap eat resturant is Persian Cuisine Express located at 340 Laurier Ave W at Bank. Large portions, tender meat, pleasant service and a nice price.

Aline and I tried the Dolmeh - Stuffed grape leaves with tomato, rice, parsley and lemon juice and as appetizers. I tried the lamb shank and she tried the *** for our entres. There was plenty leftover to take home. Aline also tried the doogh (a mixture of water, yogurt and mint)
