ImageWhile looking up things to do for our 1000 Islands getaway last weekend, Aline and I discovered that the Kingston Symphony Orchestra would be playing an outdoor concert featuring a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with cannons fired by the Fort Henry Guard and a fireworks finale at the Fort Henry National Historic Site July 21-22. That sounded pretty cool to us especially since it gave us an excuse to check out a stone house for sale near Brockville on the way down and to eat at Chez Piggy in Kingston prior to the show.

Located downtown in a complex of renovated 19th-century stone buildings, Chez Piggy's came well recommended to us as a best of Kingston restuarant.

It lived up to its billing.

Aline tried the daily special pasta which had spicy calabrese sausage in a light cream sauce while I tried the table d'hote which featured succulent barbecued jumbo shrimp with carrots and pasta. It went down nicely with a Pinot Grigio wine and they didn't skimp on the dessert either.

Rain cancelled the concert shortly before it was scheduled to begin but the trip down didn't seem like a waste because of the meal. And we can always come down again next year!
